The Beauty of Autumn on the Farm

The farm is looking so beautiful at this time of year (ok, I am biased...but... it looks beautiful all through the year, in all the seasons)!

Each season has it's own joys whether it's new colours, smells, sights and sounds.

Colours

What could be more joyful than seeing the colours of the leaves on trees and hedges turn from greens through to orangy/yellows then reds. Just like a watercolour painting.

The Hawthorn berries and Rosehips are bursting out with their bright red colour as well as a sea of deep purple Blackberries.

Smells

Just imagine smelling the fresh crisp morning air and enjoying the last warm days until the weather turns.

Tastes

It's impossible not to think of 'Blackberries' when Autumn is mentioned! They are one of my favourite joys of Autumn, especially picking them whilst chatting with friends or the children on a walk around the farm!

Each year I hope to make jam or apple and blackberry pies, but usually they don't last long enough as they are very few left when we actually arrive back home (please tell me we are not the only ones!)

Sights

The sparkling morning dew looks so beautiful as if it's been touched by a Fairy's wand, glistening as the sun starts to appear. The views across the farm are really spectacular.

I'm so thrilled!! I am still seeing lots of butterflies fluttering around which is such a lovely sight. There are lots of varieties on our farm - Common Blue, Small White, Cabbage White, Tortoiseshell, Peacock, Orange Tip plus many more.

I have always loved butterflies - the beautiful colours, the majestic way they fly, the amazing way they metamorphosise and most importantly they have such a significant meaning, especially to me (which is a story for another day). If you look carefully I have included butterflies in our Southey Creek Glamping logo as well as all the other logos I have designed for myself.

Our pheasants and their ever-growing chicks are often skitting around and our resident Kestrel is frequently seen hovering above waiting to catch his prey. We are so lucky that there are so many birds, insects and animals around us.

How can I forget the oldest sight on the planet? You've guessed it - the stars. Even though were are close to Maldon, we are still far enough away to see so many beautiful stars. I may not remember all their names (I hope it's not just me!), but it's so nice to gaze up at the sky and take your mind away from everything, even just for a moment and just enjoy the breathtaking views.

We saw another beautiful sight last night - the beautiful deep orange glow of the 'Harvest Moon'. It was truly mesmerising. I have found a few facts for you too (courtesy of BBC Weather) -

September's full moon is also known as the Harvest Moon or the Corn Moon.

The harvest moon is the name given to the full moon closest to the autumn equinox. It's around this time of year when the moonrise is very similar in time to sunset. This gives almost a whole night of bright moonlight which historically helped farmers when tractors didn't have lights, to use the full moonlight to harvest their crops well into the evening.

Sounds

I love hearing the sound of the birds, bees and the wind in the trees. Just to sit and enjoy it is so blissful. Something I am really looking foward to when I get the chance, especially with a glass of wine and a good book too (a girl can dream can't she?) For our glampers it's something special as just to get away from everything.

Hearing laughter from our glampers enjoying themselves is such an exciting sound (especially after such a stressful and turbulant year for everyone). This is why we love doing what we do - providing happiness for other people and a chance for them to escape and unwind. We love to share the beauty of our farm with them. We love it and we hope everyone that stays enjoys it too!

It has been lovely to hear from our glampers who have told us how peaceful and tranquil it is being here and have enjoyed listening to the birds and sitting out in the evening sky gazing. We have had so many wonderful reviews - thank you so much to our lovely Southey Creek Glampers! You can have a read on our Testimonials page.

🍂

I hope you have enjoyed reading about my joys of Autumn on the Farm. It's too good not to share with you! What's YOUR favourite part of Autumn?

Looking forward to seeing you soon so you can enjoy it with us!

Until next time...

Julie
